Our last day in Q and the loss of a beloved friend

We woke up to another beautiful day.  We needed to get some last minute things done in town.  After we finished that we came home and did some things around the camper.

After lunch we headed over to where the RTR group is.  There is still several left who are staying around Q awhile.  We visited for several hours and then before we knew it was time to head home to start the dreaded packing

Dee and Donnie Wilson

We received news today that our dear friend Donnie Wilson from Maryland went home to be with the Lord last night.  We are blessed to have spent some time in Florida last year with Donnie and his wife Dee.  We are apart of a wonderful RV ministry.  Donnie will be greatly missed by many who knew him.  Rest in Peace our dear friend.  We are heart broken over your loss but your fight with cancer is over.

015S

We are packed and just a few last minute things in the morning.  Although we received an email saying we need about 40 foot of sewer hose so another trip into town in the morning is a must before we can hit the road.

We’ve enjoyed our time and it’s bittersweet.  Were ready to see new territory but were also sad to say good bye to friends we’ve met here.  We survived 18 days with no hookups!  We’ve learned some things and we have lots more to learn.

We have found that we love boon docking and doing more of it is in our future.  Until next time .. it’s going to be a evening of resting before a long day begins.

Caught in traffic!

We got up and got around this morning and then headed to our neighbor’s for biscuit and gravy for breakfast.  Our new friend Hugh invited us down.  Of course were not breakfast people so we went over and visited but we didn’t eat.  It smelt good though. (Thanks Hugh)  We had a great visit and then we headed home to dump the water from our jugs and headed off to town.

003A

We needed to run to Blythe, Ca to the Oreilly auto part store.  Our truck is smelling like diesel fuel and normally that means our fuel filter needs to be changed.  I had called yesterday and they said the Moto craft filter would be in today.

004A

we had to go through the inspection gate again.  Although we had no problems

006

on our way home after crossing the border into AZ traffic came to a halt!

007A

We drove for several miles barely moving and we were bumper to bumper.  We didn’t know if it was road construction or what .. until …

008

we saw smoke and then we came upon this!  This trucker was definitely having a bad day!  Other then the trailer and the smoke stakes you couldn’t tell this trailer had a truck hooked to it .. I’ve never seen one burn like this.

009

We got back into Q and it was more bumper to bumper traffic!  I think we’ve spent most of our day in traffic!  We came home and hubby changed the filters and I was the get me person.  Once that was done we took the dogs on their walk and then we came home and started some dinner.  Tonight’s menu was hubby cooked bacon on the grill, warmed up last night left over potatoes and fried eggs .. mmm it was so good.  After dinner hubby built me one more last fire and we sat outside until the fire died down and it started getting chilly.  While we enjoyed the fire outside the water heater was warming up our water for a nice warm shower.   The rest of the night is being spent enjoying some TV and computer .. another beautiful day here in Arizona.

La Posa Long Term Visitor Area

We woke up this morning and I went down stairs to turn on the furnace but it wouldn’t come on .. ughh we ran out of propane during the night.  So I had to go outside and switch tanks.  It’s another beautiful sunny and warm day here Q.

004

Once we got around we headed over to the RTR to take some cans over for those who are saving them.  We visited a bit.  The RTR is winding down although there are still several people over there still.  Tomorrow is the official last day of it but anyone is welcome to stay with the tribe as long as they want.  Wow look at the traffic in town!  It was bumper to bumper .. like being in Miami, Fl again!

006

on the list today was the La Posa Long Term Visitor Area.  I wanted to check it out for future references.  Although to be honest I do not see us staying here.  You have to pay for a permit and the cost is $40 for 14 days or $180 for 7 months.  You get access to free dumpster for your trash, a place to dump your sewer and water for your fresh tank for bathing and etc.

009

Personally I just can not see paying that as regardless when your tanks are full your going to have to pack up and move or use one of those blue boys.  I do not mind moving and by 14 days I’m ready to move on to greener pastures.

011

there are signs up for different areas of camping

013

as you can see it’s pretty packed and I can see how there are over a million RV’s here.  Everywhere you look is filled with RV’s!

015

after exploring we went and got water and propane and headed home for a late lunch.

017

hubby fired up the grill and tonight’s menu was grilled chops with potatoes .. mmm it was good.  After dinner hubby got a nice little fire going for me and we sat around it until it got too cold and it was time to retire inside.  We’ve gotten into a routine that hubby cooks and I clean up the mess.  It’s not so bad when he cooks outside but when he cooks inside .. ekkk!

020

Fired up the generator, turned on the TV.  I threw a cake in the oven to feed the sweet tooth craving.  Another wonderful day here at Q!

The Big Tent!

I woke up to another beautiful day .. got up and got around and headed to the last RTR seminar.  It was on cooking in a van, propane/butane stoves, solar oven, pressure cooking, thermos cooking and etc.

002

Bob showing how his solar oven works

003

Lori showing how to steam or wet back with a regular cooking pan and a round cake pan

022

Once the meeting was over, I hurried back home and got ready to go into town to the Big Tent RV Show.  We’ve been looking forward to this event!  It’s the big hype of Q.

012

the entrance to big tent

010

as you can see the place was pretty crowded with people

004

this guy has a pretty easy job .. he gets to stay in bed!

005

We didn’t find anything exciting inside the big tent for us.  We were actually a bit disappointed as we had the impression we were going to see the newest and best of the last RV gadgets out there, but we didn’t see anything we hadn’t seen before.

006

there are several booths setup outside around the big tent and we toured them.  We did find a couple things to add to our collection.  Hubby got a new sewer cap and some kind of meter.

007

This tent was neat looking

008

I found what I wanted!  Wouldn’t I look cool driving around Lake Willy in one of these?

013014015

the problem was there are several that I liked and although the white one was my favorite.

016017

I’ve been wanting a sign to hang outside our RV and I found a place that makes them .. but…… wow those things are outrageous.

018

Hubby promised once we got back home he would get his dermel tool and make me one.  He better, he promised and since I’m such a tight wade, I agreed to wait.

019

they had lots of tents with some great food .. this chicken looked so good but the line wasn’t worth it .. so we passed

020

we decided we’d stop by McD’s and get some $1 double cheeseburgers for a late lunch, then to get water and head back home to take the dogs on their late afternoon walk.  We have finally gotten some nice warmth here in AZ.  This is what I’m talking about, I even was able to get my t-shirt out and put it on!   Before we knew it the sun was going down and it was time to start dinner.  Hubby made chicken fried steak tonight and it was good.  We watched some TV and did some internet stuff and now it’s time to call it a night.

Meeting another Blogger

Wow, the weather sure has turned around.  We woke to the sun shining and temps making it a very nice day!

001

First on the list was to attend the Stealth and boon docking  seminar at the RTR.  I learned some things and enjoyed it.  I returned home and we got ready to head to town and do some more exploring.  We found a Ding and Dent Groceries but I personally thought their prices were too high for damaged items.

003

We explored a area of Quartzsite that wasn’t very good and it was mostly junk to us.  But it’s a great day to be outside enjoying a beautiful day.  Even this guy way enjoying the sunshine .. We have seen several of these flying over us.  But this one was close enough for me to get a picture.

004

We stayed away from Kuehn St and I-10 as the big tent show started today and the traffic and people are insane!  We had been warned ahead of time that it would be a rat race with the opening of the tent.

005A

I have been following Brian’s blog for sometime and we finally are in the same area.  So I made plans to meet him.  We met at his rig and had a great time chatting.  Brian is a great blogger, writer and as he calls himself a broken down cowboy.   Check out his blog here .. http://daily-blog.rv-boondocking-the-good-life.com/

We hadn’t planned to stay that late but enjoyed our visit and so before we knew it .. it was time to head home and fire up the grill.  Hubby grilled steaks and I made some veggies inside.  Another great dinner and the evening is going to be spent resting and relaxing as it was another exhausting day here in Q.   It’s hard to believe that on Tuesday the RTR will be over and we plan to pull out on Thursday to head to Ajo, Az.

Tyson Wells and we’ve been invaded!

I got up this morning and went over to the RTR for the 10 AM meeting.  I stayed for the announcements and then headed back home.  The topic today was Mystery shopping and that isn’t my cup of tea.  After I got home we got things around and headed to town to do some exploring.

021

Tyson Wells was on the list today to visit

009

011012

We headed into town to do some more exploring .. it’s just one big, super duper flea market here and I’m not sure we will ever see all of it.

030

We went from place to place looking and we did do some buying Smile

031

they had live entertainment and they were pretty good

017

even had their own little bar set up .. a great day to be outside but of course we do not drink.

018

This sign described what the place was

013

032

my boys will appreciate this sporting car that is for sale

033

as several of you know I’m addicted to rugs .. they had some beautiful ones .. but my model is if it can’t be washed I do not need.  Having dogs and a tracking things in our home with our travels being washable is a must!

034

It was another beautiful day with the sun out and the temps finally bearable that lots of people are out and about.

035

they have anything you could possibly want at these places

036

this vender had unique trees and wood things.

037

a knife collection booth .. of course hubby had to check it out.  Although I was shocked he didn’t buy anything

038

hmm .. these were different

039

for dress up maybe?

040043

lots of food booth’s and since we left home early .. finally the smells got the best of us ..

042

this stand has a special going today .. 2 hot dogs and a drink for $5 .. can’t beat that

044

you could get grilled onions and kraut on your dog if you wanted.  We both chose the onions only

045

they had a nice place to sit down and rest while we enjoyed our lunch

041

I love looking at the colorful clothing although my body is not built for it Smile

046048

baskets! I love em .. but I resisted today

049

several of these venders have their shops setup right next to their homes and some even sell out of their home .. pretty neat

050

this would have been a welcomed booth but it was closed up for the day

051

they still had a charlie brown tree out

053

booth after booth and we have not begin to even to touch the surface of these booths

054

after all the walking and it getting late in the afternoon a snack was needed.  we stopped for a wonderful cinnamon roll, they were $4.50 but huge, we shared one

047

venders home are next to their booths

055

this caught my eye

056

019020

after a long fun filled day I had enough walking and my back was screaming so we headed home .. wow the streets are packed

059

Rigs are rolling in by the doves

060

it’s mass confusion on the roads

066

this guy had the right idea .. staying off the roads was smart

067068026025024

on our way back home we noticed that the desert is filling up

028081

more and more white specs out there

082084

everywhere you look you see white specs of rigs in for the big tent show that starts Saturday

085086

wow we got closer to our home and we had a hard time finding it

088

We have been invaded by campers!

089

we have campers all around us .. except for our front yard looking out our door.  In order for anyone to invade our beautiful front yard they will have to park in a wash.  I still have my beautiful view and we are secluded just the way we like it.  behind us we are invaded but we still have our seclusion in our front yard.

090

We got home and I got out my book and relaxed in my lounger and then we took the dogs on their afternoon walk and hubby came home and fired up the grilled.  He grilled some steaks and made some mac and cheese and we enjoyed a quiet dinner at home.

001

Later we went over to the RTR for the talent show.   One of the RTR people have their own little Tiki bar setup with music and all

003

the talent show started out with some jokes.  Everyone was asked to keep them clean

004

a nice fire was going

005

Lori played her guitar and sang some songs from her album she had made.

006

We visited a bit and then headed home to fire up the generator to charge our batteries and then it was an early night to bed after another exhausting fun filled day here at Q.  We are really loving being parked in the desert.  Esp with the temps warming up and all week long the temps are so suppose to get better and better.  Our time here is flying by and it’s hard to believe before long we will be packing up and leaving to a new location.
